I think I just want it to start now even though I don’t know how to use my Sat phone, change tubes with ease or be guaranteed that something won’t hurt every day. I want to list a few people who have inspired me to do this and hopefully that inspiration will keep me going during the sure to be tough days:
Matt Deema: Weight trainer extraordinaire but really more a spiritual/motivational friend
Rick Lorenzen: 40+ year friend who has done a bunch of crazy stuff, including a 1000 mile canoe race and numerous team triathlons (hell we won the Chippewa this year)
Jerry Heaps:(better known as Jihad): 30 + year friend who has done 150 marathons/ultra marathons and been on a few of our team triathlons. (Chippewa team)
Matt Appleman: Hand built the bike I’m riding, fixed stuff, advice given and all around gem of a guy. Oh and he is my son-in-law. (Chippewa team)
Bill Hay: He is the one who told me to do this when I retired. He is 82+ and still riding his Brompton around town with a English flag helmet
The I couldn’t do it without them list:
My lovely wife Sarah
My 2 daughters who have supported me through out
Peter Brown: Riding the first 1000 miles with me
John Farrell: Riding the next 1000 miles with me (got me into this with 2 rides to Winnipeg)
My Mother Velma, she doesn’t know I’m doing this yet but I will figure out how to tell her
My brothers Mike ( he may do some/all of the 2nd half with me, that would move him up on the list) and Donnie and all my extended family
JC and Charlie Hurd who may be dedicated enough to drive to Glasgow Montana and support me for a few days
Many have asked where will I been and when:
Starting at my daughter Elizabeth’s house in Seattle on August 19
Arrive in Glasgow Montana around Labor Day weekend for riding partner exchange
Arrive at Shriver Cabin in Barnes WI around September 12 depart September 15
Finish at 79 Indian Point Road in Stonington, Maine (Sarah’s mother’s house) October 3 or 4
Don’t really know the total miles but around 3400 averaging 85 per day.
Coolest dad around! Excited to see you off!

Duke and I are now following your blog and LOVE that you are doing this. In fact we are going on a bike ride today in Switzerland. Okay not 85 miles and hopefully flat. First mistake we made was when I assumed a trail along a river would be flat. It was a glacier stream and we were biking up hill to Gstaad. We stopped about half way up and had pizza and beeer and called it an EPIC day! The ride back to the car was all down hill which rocked! Enjoy the moments and congrats on doing epic shit!

Recognized some of the named folks – fun! Really in awe. This is a dream of mine as well. Once this ‘reset’ year of mine is complete, I will be back at it in 2018.
