Tomaz non gravel day 2

Tomaz’s fondness for gravel day 2

Motto for the day: no rain no flats

We started off at 8:00 geared up for rain as we made our way in light rain to Anacabe’s for breakfast. Satiated by a hearty breakfast and terrible coffee we left Winona behind to venture NW in a drizzle that faded to a beautiful day with partly cloudy skies… and a flat tire for Galen (and Mr prepared brought the wrong tube).

Having made it through the adversity of rain and a flat we enjoyed the climbs and rolling landscape that took us to Plainville for lunch.

The appearance of a daily curfew translated to an empty town, as Peter and Kevin experienced as they stood in the middle of Main St.

After finding the only open saloon for lunch, which required an entire bottle of Tabasco as a means of countering blandness, we ventured into more rolling countryside. Amazed by the local preference to ATV’s, the occasional wild pickup, and the prerequisite tractor display, we made our way along the Zumbro river, through many small towns, including Rollingstone which initiated Peter’s singing of Rolling Stones songs.
Making it to Zumbrota we were ready for a shower and a meal. The shower was easy to accomplish, the meal required some creativity. The outcome was positive with Peter having the opportunity to entertain a stranger celebrating his 69th birthday and our enjoying pizza from a gas station in the lobby of our hotel.
