9/30 73 miles from Inlet NY to North Hudson NY. Cold and Mountainous
Just the words I wanted to hear when I woke up this morning, after sending some stuff back, including my rain gear. “Did it stop raining yet?” Luckily it had, so we headed out from our “deluxe accommodations”
We layered up and headed out on a damp, cool, overcast day. We hadn’t gone far before I put on my “Chad” hat for warmth.
We encountered the rugged beauty of the Adirondacks on the entire ride.

Probably one of the toughest bike challenges I’ve ever encountered with a multitude of steep climbs and descents.
On one of the steepest, as I struggled to keep the Trek upright and under control I heard a voice behind me, “Are you going to the same place I am.?” I thought God might be calling me home. But it was Jonathan and his girlfriend Judith headed to Bar Harbor, Maine. They started in Washington State and were mostly doing the Northern Tier route with a big detour to St. Louis. It was going to be about 5400 miles when finished.

Tired and cold at the end of the day we headed into North Hudson, NY. The first thing you see is a giant run down retail building for sale. As we rode to the Blue Ridge Hotel we saw other abandoned buildings and hotels. Seems this place used to be Frontier town and now it was ghost town. Got to the hotel and asked the usual rapid fire questions: Laundry, food we could walk to. No laundry but Jerry, the owner, opened up his commercial laundry and let us use it. Food was 5 miles away, a taxi cost 50$ just to show up. I was 2 seconds from asking him if we could eat cold cereal meant for the morning when he said, “Hey look. My Italian girl friend was just here and made me a whole bunch of great food. I’ll bring it to you room and you can heat it up in the Microwave. I’m beyond words for the riches we received in a not so pleasant situation.
