9/20 91 miles from Ludington MI to Clare MI
A poem by the master
In the Big ring forever
A tear drop from cryin
Finally descending
Feels like I’m flyin
Negative hydration
And suddenly spyin
On landscapes so beautiful
The Spertles. They were biking tandem on the Pere Marquette gravel trail and we asked them when it became paved. They said 30 miles up so we returned to the road.
Leon. You can tell by the shirt he is wearing. Mike started talking to him as he was having a smoke outside, near our room at the Lone Pine Inn. He suggested we go to the White House Diner where his favorite cook/waitress “Mosquito” worked. Since it was a mile to the restaurant Leon said he would drive us. Leon worked 39 years in a scrap metal yard in Lansing MI. He ran every piece of equipment they had, loved his job and received no retirement. His wife died 3 years ago and he is 74. He loves all the workers at the Open Hamburgers/White House and they love him. They gave him free food and scolded him for salting his food. He would accept no payment from us for anything
