9/18. 91 miles from Crandon WI to Pulaski WI (An Exurb of Green Bay, 10 miles out)
Since the only noteworthy thing that happened today was Kevin’s let down when he woke up and realized the special treatment I had given him on his birthday was behind us. I thought I would talk about a topic that is on a lot of cyclist’s minds but few have the cranks to dare discuss it, “biopace envy”.
Basically for those of you who are not familiar, biopace are special rings that a select few cyclists put on their cranks to give them an advantage when pedaling. They are computer designed to be oval rather than round like most inferior crank rings.
Cyclist who don’t have them, surcome to biopace envy and go to great lengths trying to equal or surpass the performance of biopace.
For example Kevin’s mechanic, Matt, became an engineer so he could build custom bikes made of space age materials and complimented with the latest components such as electronic shifters and disk brakes.
Some are critical of the cycling attire of biopace riders.
Some just pay big bucks to buy such a bike and outfit it with the latest aerodynamic arrowdynamic packs to equalize biopace performance when touring.
When you ride biopace, as I do, cycling is less expensive and demanding of your time.

And Biopace riders really want all out performance so after riding 260 miles in 3 days they send 12 pounds of extra shit home.

Knowing the person behind this blog makes this 10x better. Great job Mike and congrats on unloading unnecessary crap.

If either one of you ever lose your sense of humor not only will this epic ride and the family fall apart but I have the feeling the biking world will too.
