9/16 80 miles from Shriver Cabin in Barnes WI to Park Falls WI

What can go wrong on a bike ride when you have corn waffles with home made salsa for dinner. That’s what Chef Gelen, who drove all the way to Barnes, WI. from Minneapolis, made and fed us last night. Spectacular! Only catch was that he and Kevin’s mechanic Matt (also Kevin’s son in law) would accompany us on “part” of the ride to to Park Falls. They wanted a piece of the action.
Luckily they were riding road bikes sans packs or panniers so they didn’t slow us down too much. They were picked up by Sarah and Emma at Clam Lake, where we were all treated to a fabulous picnic by the Sag Team 9. Come to find out they were actually sagging Matt and Gelen as they were unsure that either would be able to keep up with Kevin after he had a couple days off and myself who spent most of the summer on a scaffold with a paint brush.
Matt kept saying that riding across the country didn’t seem all that hard and wondered why the Shriver boys complained so much.
We took a short rest in Cable where Matt’s sister Hayley took time out from a hectic day at the wildlife sanctuary to join us for a short visit.
After the picnic and good bye hugs in Clam Lake the pace picked up and we rolled into Park Falls well before sundown.
Fantastic day! Glad Matt and I were able to get you and Mike started on this next leg of your adventure.
