Libby Mt to Eureka Mt (2.5 miles from Canada)

72 miles on 8/27.  Most fire smoke we have seen. 

92’F now and 50’F this morning.

Great beauty and low traffic until about 1.  Really no services for the entire trip.  We did ride a mile off the road to a marina to buy a few things and use the restroom. Saw a couple of cougars who said they liked my neon leggings and could see me from a mile away.

Met Buff and Sandy at a State recreation site where they were the host/managers. I said Buff was a nice name and must have attracted lots of chicks when he was young but he said in the military it stood for Big Ugly Fat F—er or if the B52’s showed up they were Big Ugly Flying Fellow. They offered to drive their ATV down a steep hill if we needed water.

Bike touring lessons so far:

Peter:

– Butt maintaince 

– frequent breaks

– constant hydration and nutrition 

– shower and clothes wash close to destination arrival time

– start early and pack bags so you can find shit, did I mention Butt maintaince 

Kevin:

– pick excellent riding partners

– openly accept help and advice (I can’t tell how much this has improved my trip)

– don’t worry about looking like a neon clown

– choose hotels that are in town and along route, unlike the one tonight that is 5 from town and 1/2 mile to The Trappers Lounge (only place to eat)

– stretch 

– take time to enjoy the beauty and the weirdness
